TRACK ATHLETE

Cathy Rattray is a legendary figure in Jamaican track and  field, renowned for her remarkable achievements on the global stage as well  as her commitment to education and community service. Born and raised in Jamaica, then later migrated overseas as the teen child of an Ambassador, Cathy's athletic journey began at an early age, fueled by a passion for  sprinting and a relentless drive for success.


Throughout her illustrious career, Cathy represented Jamaica with distinction at the highest levels of competition, showcasing her exceptional talent as a quarter-miler. She made her mark on the Olympic stage, participating in an impressive four Olympic Games spanning from 1980  to 1992, solidifying her status as one of Jamaica's most accomplished athletes. Additionally, Cathy excelled at the World Championships, securing two prestigious appearances in the first staging 1983 and 1987, further cementing her legacy as a dominant force in international track and field.


Cathy's list of accolades is extensive and impressive. She claimed the title of World Indoor Champion in 1993 as part of the 4x400m relay team, demonstrating her versatility and skill on the track. At the Commonwealth Games, Cathy showcased her talent by earning a silver medal in the 4x400m relay event in 1982. She also dominated the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Championships, winning numerous titles and medals throughout her career, including both junior and senior championships in the 400m and 4x400m relay events.


Off the track, Cathy is equally passionate about education and community development. Armed with a Bachelor's Degree, a Master's degree and currently pursuing her PhD, she has dedicated herself to serving as an educator and leader in Jamaica and overseas. Cathy has served as a Spanish teacher and  principal at multiple primary schools in Jamaica, where she has inspired countless students to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence. Additionally, she has lent her expertise to the Ministry of Education in Jamaica as a consultant, contributing to the enhancement of educational programs and policies.


As a published author of "Let's Have Fun with Spanish," Cathy continues to make an impact beyond the track, promoting the importance of language learning and cultural appreciation. Her commitment to giving back to her community and empowering the next generation exemplifies her enduring legacy as not only a sporting icon but also a dedicated advocate for education and social change. Cathy Rattray's remarkable journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes and educators alike, showcasing the power of perseverance, passion, and purpose.
